Hi there, I am a visual artist based in Hong Kong. Welcome to my web page about my art experiments. Most of my art works were inspired by this mysterious and surrealistic city in which I found poetry. I here share them with you and wish you a good time visiting my site, enjoy!

Today I created 「The Pinocchio」「木偶奇遇號」to join in the Jan 1st 2013 Anti-CY Leung parade. My puppet can play the song "Do You Hear What People Sing" from Les Misérables. Also CY Leung's old enemy Mr. Henry Tang's famous quote: " You are lying! Whatever you say you are always lying!" repeatedly. We march and sing with comrades from the arts community during the protest. Our frustration towards the disappointing government and it's lying Chief Executive Mr. CY Leung was finally able to vented out a little bit.
Created a drum machine entitled Plastic Talks which made by 100% plastic material recovered from plastic recycled center. It was on display during the Free Space Festival partly organised by Make a Difference and M+ where literally thousdands of people participated in this mega scale public space art and music festival.

Curated and exhibited a very interesting exhibition as part of the detour 2012 event. We moved into Gresson street market in Wan Chai in the middle of the night exploring different aspect of illegal buying and selling that is happening in our society. I did a project entitled A Conversation With Death, featuring me dressing up as Death giving out free fortune telling service with a deck of rigged Tarot Cards, Death was very busy that night and we had so much fun performing this flash art event.
Opening: Dec/13/2012 9pm -1am Venue : Gresson Street Market, Wan Chai, HK

Hawkerama II 排檔藝術嘉年華 II
We are showing Hawkerama II at this year's Detour 2012 at the former Wan Chai Police Station, the exhibition succefully attracted so many visitors into this wonderful historial site. My Transform Bar was there making wheat grass green apple juice for the viewers to enjoy.
Created a new piece of work entitled The Land of Plenty for the Oxfam's One Seventh Exhibition. You know everyday on this planet, one out of seven people go to sleep with an empty stomach. The cause is from unequal distribution of food. I created a large disc out of resin, trapped inside are wooden animal and human figurines I collected from Africa with dried corns.

Transform Bar is a 3 feet by 4 feet juice bar, it is constructed of recycled wood, its exterior walls are surrounded by planters with wheat grass growing on them. These planters can be push out from the main structure expanding the area of the shop when needed, also maximizing the sun light angles for the grass. I will be staying inside the shop blending apple juice by mixing the wheat grass that was cut by the art viewers, bringing forward the message of paying awareness to our food source and extending art appreciation to the sense of taste and consumption. Transform Bar got its inspiration from the Hong Kong street hawkers’ stalls. In order to survive, the owner of the hawkers’ stalls will push out and pull back their merchandise in different times of the day, forming a flexible system. 3 feet by 4 feet is only so big, the merchandise have to match the market demand in order to sustain a proper living, running the business also have to be flexible and legal. It could also be said that The Hong Kong way to survive is to be adoptive with the environment through transformation.
Art work: Standing Next to the West Kowloon Alone Venue: Exhibition Gallery, Hong Kong Central Library, 66 Causeway Road, Causeway Bay, H.K. Date: 16-30 /5 /2012 10:00am-8:00pm 31 /5 /2012 10:00am–4:00pm
Just finished a piece entitled “Standing Next to the West Kowloon Alone” which is a handrail in the shape of Hong Kong skyline in an abstract 3D form. The theme of this year’s biennial is ”West Kowloon” so I am proposing to create a handrail to be position next to the harbor front for the visually impaired so they can enjoy and “touch” our city. This work is a remake from a piece I did 12 years ago “Standing Next to the Harbor Front Alone” but this time the sculpture is made out of wood and more 3D which I like a lot. The joining of the wooden pole and all those angles was hell to make but I enjoy every single bit of the process, very simple but crafty.

Gambling always seems to be the main activity during Chinese family gathering, especially during Chinese New Year, besides saying Kung Hei Fat Choy repeatedly the Mahjong table must be open. And the real estate market, stock market, and gold market seems to become the place of speculation for everybody, buying and selling is like betting on Big or Small, sometimes one is addicted without realizing it. You want to win back the money that was lost, hoping the next opening is what you betted on, a gambling game that never end.
Note: Fish, Shrimp, Crab is a popular gambling game originated from China and particular popular in the south. The casinos in Macau still offer this type of gambling game.
The skyline of the city is constantly changing, but unfortunately the citizens usually cannot participate in the planning and construction of the city. This interactive installation allows the viewers to construct their mini wooden skyscraper sculpture out of recycled wood. The finished skyscraper sculptures will line up in a row it will form a new city skyline juxtaposed against the real skyline across the Victoria Harbor. A low tech version of Symphony of Light will be conducted on Jan/12/2012. So if you are looking for something special to do, please common down to West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade during Christmas and new year, reclaim the skyline for yourself.
The
Deer Head and the Rabbit Head are now on show at the Detour. The theme of this
year¡¦s Detour is USELESS which I think it about time for designers to rethink
about how to create by using less. My sculptures are actually shelters allowing
the viewers to literally look out from the animal¡¦s perspective to rethink our
world of consumerism and so call progress. My students from The Hong Kong
Polytechnic University School of Design are also showing their Sitting Device,
chairs that are made from 2 pieces of 4 x 8 feet ply woods without using any
nails, very challenging and interesting results, please go check it out.

Paddling Home is now reinstalled underneath the roof of the new HKDI building in Tseung Kwan O. The monumental space of this structure is very big and the spatial quality is super impressive. Incidentally my Paddling Home looks exactly like those housing complex across from the exhibition venue giving a strange sense of architectural displacement.
Project: Exhale 嘆息 Duration: July/14 to Aug/27/11 Venue: 2/F., 31 C-D Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong Info: www.grottofineart.com
The theme of this exhibition is about freedom and democracy, Mao Tse-Tung once said Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun, in order to achieve peace the gun is always there standing by, achieving various objectives and peace through violence, the gun indeed a puzzle for me. My work Exhale is a 3D pistol form made out of translucent glass blocks, the form of the pistol can be taken apart into separate pieces destroying the image of a gun.
Project: Doomsday 末日號 Opening: July/6/2011 Duration: July/7 to Aug/9/2011 Venue: ArtisTree, 1/F Cornwall House, TaiKoo Place, Island East Info: +852 2887 1321
Natural and man-made disasters killed tens of thousands of people and many more lost their home, Hong Kong being much closer to the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station than to the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, maybe it is about time to reflect and address the potential risk and hazard produced by nuclear energy. Doomsday is an anti-nuclear radiation mobile living unit made of lead panels for one person, when lay flat on the ground the four solar panels could generate 15 volts of electricity for small electronic appliances. People often have blind faith towards the machine and think they could resolve all of the problems of nature. Unfortunately, this time our machines turned around and destroyed the most important life supplies in nature, polluting water, food, and the air. This new work will be shown at the 30 x 30 exhibition along side with my Tin Man No.11, thats two robots in one show, the show also feature 29 other famous designers and artists, please stop by and check it out.
I just curated a very meaning exhibition in support for the release of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, my Grass Mud Horse will also be shown in this exhibition together with more than 50 Hong Kong artists and poets, here is the curatorial statement:
A person went missing in China, this time an artist. This may seem distant and it may be easy for us to ignore it and accept it as just another case of disappearance in China and move on, but can we? Love the Future is an art and poetry exhibition that consists of more than 50 artists and poets from Hong Kong expressing their concerns about freedom of speech and artistic expression in China. Most importantly, it is a reaction towards the unjust detention of artist Ai Weiwei by the Chinese authorities. Ai Weiwei said in his book I think that every person must do something for others; that is the only way this world will see change. This show is dedicated to the spirit of do something for others and is an ongoing effort to fight for justice and defend basic human rights. _______________________________________________________________________________________________

The air quality in Hong Kong is getting worst every year. I just donated my latest sculpture work entitled Exhale for the Clean Air Network (CAN) which is fighting for better air quality in Hong Kong. The work will be exhibited in March then will be auction away by Sothebys to general funding for CAN in April. My concept is about war, how war is like a puzzle that brings destruction and peace. The sculpture is made by translucent glass and can be disassembled into smaller pieces. I am very happy I can contribute to this noble cause to make our environment better, check out their website for more information www.hongkongcan.org. _______________________________________________________________________________________________

[Jan/11] Art Souvenirs
Project: The Seige 圍城
Just finished 20 unique wax sculptures to be given away to VIP as art souvenirs commissioned by Arts Development Council. My concept is about the relationship between the habitat of wild animals and the development of our city. Cities are constantly expanding and gradually encroaching on the nature habitat of the animals and it is like a siege on the animal kingdom. I tried to represent different animals appeared to be stuck or about to be drowned on a lake creating a disturbing effect outline the relationship which is urgently need to be reflect upon.

The idea is about creatures that once exist long time ago but since we did not have any direct contact of them so they will always remain fictional. I am creating a completely new creature by combining different dinosaur bones The bones were set into wax and were excavated back out as if they are fossil. _______________________________________________________________________________________________

My students from PolytechnicUniversity also jointed the party fully dressed into different kinds of characters, what a blast! You can see old footages of 大鉄人17 here:

This dedicated this award to the two of them. _______________________________________________________________________________________________

[Jan/10] Two Wongs Go To The Sea
The moment when my Paddling Home touched down on the Victoria Harbour and stay afloat I literally cried out, what a joy! I tailor made a boat captain suits and host a very nice boat launching party in a garden right next to the harbour and many friends came to celebrate my adventure. The weather was nice that day and I managed to not only sail out on the ocean but also did some fishing and golfing as well. In the evening when I tried to lift the boat out of the water we almost lost the roof since the current was very strong, what an adventure all in one day!
