[11/17/07] Grand Opening of Kacey's studio Object Factory
Close to 65 guests celebrated my studio warming part at Object Factory in Ap Lei Chau. We performed a pig cutting ceremony, BBQ,ate, listened to great music, drank and had a great time until way pass mid-night. This new 2500 sq ft studio is my dream studio for years and after meticulously building it for almost a year, it finally become reality!
I recently donated a photograph from my Drift City Photo Series taken from Santorini, Greece to this year Para/site Art Space ArtMart. It was auctioned at the Kee Club for HK$18,000 and the money will go into the running of this extraordinary art space. I am quite happy about this since I can contribute towards the development of Hong Kong Art scene. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
[10/26/07] HarmoNow 3D & Installation Art Exhibition Period: Oct/25 - Nov/6, 10am - 8pm Venue: Hong Kong Central Library Exhibition Hall, Causeway Bay, HK Opening: Oct/26/07, 5:30pm
Human being creates a lot of useful objects but at the same time left behind equally large amount of waste. This problem is a serious crisis which worth sitting down and to contemplate about it. My latest art work utilizes abandon wood found in the garbage station which was treated as junk, now recycled into a large bench for sitting. This project explores the concept of what is useless? And what is useful? Enjoy. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
[10/07] Personal Skyscraper Made it to FHM
Taiwan FHM 男人幫國際中文版 featured my Drift City Photo Series project and did a great interview under the title of Crazy Artist spread (轟狂藝術家)。 This magazine basically is a man magazine and featuring plenty of beautiful female wearing little clothing slipping here and there, no wonder why they have chosen my skyscraper project to be featured, indeed a great juxtaposition with the female bodies, very interesting...
[7/15/07] 0771 Photography Art Exhibition Period: From 14 July to 20 August, 2007 Venue: C&G Artpartment, 3/F 222 Sai Yeung Choi Street South, Mongkok, Kowloon, HK Web: www.candg-artpartment.com
On July/1st I made a banner with the words Transformation, Disappearance, Being Forgotten on it and paraded with it. I started off from Victoria Park like the rest of the demonstrators then took a discourse from the normal route and went to more personal places like the place I used to live as a child, the place I used to hangout as a teenager, etc. The photographs from July/1st were juxtaposed against the old photos of me from the 80s. The resulting work resembles a billboard from my primary school days with personal commentary written next to the photos. I had a great time making the work; please go visit it if you are near Mongkok area. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Mine and 11 other banners by local artists are on display now at Para/Site Art Space. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

White Out
What will happen after 1997? The most frequently asked question when Hong Kong was approaching the end of the 99 years lease.Unchanged for 50 years should be the standard answer; although lost in thoughts was the more common response. The culture of the British Empire had once changed the daily life of Hong Kong people in the used to be fishing village, influences from China now are quickly wiping out any remaining marks of the Brits. What remain unchanged are transformation, disappearance, and being forgotten.

Message to the Future Message from the Past
A philosopher once said the only freedom that ever exists is the freedom to choose whatever to think inside our mind. The memory of our past might not be what really happened. What are the things you wanted to change in your memory? What message do you have for your future? I built a wooden cabin out of recycle wood completed with a garden inside the tiny cell. Inside you can contemplate and reflect quietly then write a postcard addressing to your future self, I will mail it back to you in the future. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

[June/14/2006] Walk in Nature Exhibition, Seoul
A piece of my public art just launched in Seoul, South Korea. The project is about designing an image for the fence of a large construction site. You can see my work and others in the link http://www.fence.pidc.or.kr/sub_artwork.htmlMy idea entitled One Leaf One Universe is about the world of different living creatures that co-exist along side our human world and how we can form a community and learn to grow together. My image consists of house shapes in changing dimension. On the surface of the houses are "windows" composed by all kind of living creatures large and small suggesting the viewer to look. I think we humans have become the top predator of the world and many creatures gone extinct due to our carelessness. Maybe it is time for us to take a closer look into nature and start to play the role of protector instead predator. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
[June/14/2006] Round the Planet Tour Update
So far I have completed one third of my journey covering London, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Helsinki, Stockholm, and Oslo, my next stop is Copenhagen. After visiting so many cities staying about one week in each, cities is starting to feel like a theme park; getting maps from the tourist office, finding out where to go and the transportation system etc. The difference is in the theme park you get only one way to travel but in a city there are so many alternatives which make them very interesting. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
[May/13/2006] 3 Months City Drifting
Every summer I plan something new for myself such as to learn a new skill or to see new things, etc. This summer my wife Margaret and I planned a 3 months long mini round-the-world tour to visit museums and art exhibitions from all over the world, also to take some photographs for my Personal Skyscraper project. We will first visit London, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Mardrid, Bilbao, then to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Fran and our final stop are cities of Japan. This journey will take 3 months starting from May and it will end at the beginning of August, you can join our art adventure by clicking this web link where I keep my photo diary, use this link http://spaces.msn.com/chublaub/ to check it out or click the photograph above.
I have been contemplating this mobile home project entitled Think Tank for the past 2 years and this year I finally pushed myself to begin construction. Originally the idea came from my need of a clean space within my studio for keeping the dust off and a place to rest and to think, a kind of obile meditation chamber?inside my studio. At the present stage the project pick up a bit more social idea and become a small house on a large tricycle, the kind of tricycle you see everywhere in China for moving goods around. The house will be furnished with a bed, a chair and a table with enough space to accommodate one person (me). After it is finished I can ride it to places with a good view, such as the beaches or the top of the Peak and enjoy all the wonderful views that was normally not accessible to me. Maybe I will get inspire by looking out of my window with changing scenery, just like the painting of the St. Jerome Study. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
[Feb/20/2006] Kacey Wong was featured in Love, Hope, & Faith exhibition 我於愛、望、信展覽內有話要講
My good friend Anothermountainman [Stanley Wong] just got a new exhibition going, this is his 30th times using the red, white, blue plastic sheet as a concept to do exhibition. This time the theme is entitled Love, Hope, and Faith and Stanley invited me to say something relating to Hong Kong love, hope, and faith? in his video projection. I said I love that sense of belonging when I am living here in Hong Kong, I hope the Hong Kong people can learn to slow down so they can enjoy life, finally I said I believe there are two versions of Hong Kong, one is external and the other one is internal. Inside the heart of every Hong Kong people is their unique Hong Kong experience and their personal experience constructed another Hong Kong of their own. This exhibition can be seen inside the MTR Gallery in Central MTR Station.
________________________________________________________________________________
[Feb/18/2006]Personal Skyscraper made the front cover of AM Post, 我的摩天大樓登上AM Post 封面
The local art and cultural magazine AM Post invited me to create art work to be feature on the cover and the center folds of their February issue. My idea was to combine my Drift City photograph taken from Santorini, Greece then superimpose that with my previous artwork for MTR Po Lam Station, creating a picture merging the houses from fantasy with reality. AM Post magazine can be pick up for free in many local cultural venues such as Hong Kong Cultural Center, City Hall and The Art Center, etc.
[Nov/18/2005] Stars of the Ever Expanding Universe A Closer Look Exhibition
Nov/17/05 - Dec/4/05, Lane Crawford, Admiralty, Hong Kong
I just finished a mobile sculpture installation at the newly renovated lane Crawford in Admiralty. My concept was in school we learned the Earth is revolving around the Sun, but looking from the Earth's perspective it certainly feels like the Sun is revolving around the Earth. According to the statistic each of us on average would own over 10,000 things. Each day the things we own, people we know and event we engaged in revolve around us like the trillions of stars in the sky, nothing else in the whole world is more important than that. That is to say we are the center of the universe and the Sun sure feel like just another planet revolving around us. I use different colorful acrylics and cut out the shapes from the things I own or the people that are important to me. This sculpture was powered by a bicycle and it produces great shadows on the wall when spinning.

Ever since I start ridding motorcycle I was wondering how I could share this magical moment of speed and freedom with those who does not ride. Finally, I design and installed a camera stand on my bike and took the following movie footage, now you can feel what I feel behind the handle bar of the motorcycle taken from my first person point of perspective, enjoy.

[Feb/26/2005] Motorcycle Diary from Phuket 布吉摩托車日記
Last week I stopped by Phuket in Thailand for a day and rented a 125cc motorcycle to cruise around the island. The rent for the bike is only HK$ 130 for the entire day, it is a foot geared bike without clutch although it supposed to be 125cc but I really feel like a 50cc when you put two persons on top. I visited the tidal wave damaged PatongBeach and to my surprised it was 98% totally recovered unlike what was shown in the media! Most of the shop in the front was flooded and now busy renovating and the second rows are already in business. The tourist level on the streets dropped significantly especially not a lot of Hong Kong tourist which is blessing for me, very quiet and comfortable. Life in Phuket depending on tourism and now although the shops are reopened but the tourist is not showing up and situation is not good. Here I encourage everybody to consider visiting Thailand when it is time for your next vacation; the service and the sincerity of the Thai people are one of the best in Asia.
[Feb/7/2005] Personal Skyscraper competing with Taipei 101 我的摩天大樓與臺北101爭高
Last December during Christmas time I went to visited Taipei again mainly to see the Taipei Art Biennial 2004. On my way I also visited the tallest building in the world [so far] Taipei 101 skyscraper and took this photograph. It looks as if my height and Taipei 101 is about the same.
Opening:Nov/27/2004 6PMDuration: 17/11/2004 - 18/04/2005Location: Hong KongHeritageMuseum
Family Production summarized my thinking about the red, white, and blue plastic sheet material which is also a kind of exploration over the topic on the spirit of Hong Kong for the past 5 months. Thank you to all those art helpers spending numerous hours to weave over 30,000 plastic beads together. I want to make a piece of work that represents the special quality of Hong Kong in this project. The multi purpose prefabricated metal bar and the durability of red, white, and blue plastic sheets represents the character of flexibility and practicality of Hong Kong people. The shinning plastic beads drapes down to form a metaphorical time tunnel which connects the past and the present. Families after families are being constructed, though they are temporary yet all of them are great.
I went to Okinawa back at the end of August, the last time I went was about 10 years ago. Okinawa is at the south of Japan, it was known as the Country of Ryukyu long times ago, its culture is a combination of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean all mixed into one; the Okinawa three string guitar music is particularly interesting. I went with my Personal Skyscraper this time and found a cliff next to the roaring ocean. At that time Okinawa was stuck between two typhoons and the sky was in turmoil, as I was standing at the end of the cliff with the body of the skyscraper being wiped constantly by the strong wind, inside the skyscraper I suddenly felt the great power of nature and how small of modern architecture.
After 8 months of continuous practice I finally passed the motorcycle examination and received my motorcycle license, so happy! I bought a Mojito 150cc scooter by Aprilia factory. Now I can relive the memory of wind blowing on my face (above middle and right photos taken back in 1983) and the feeling of freedom everyday. Now I use this bike to go to work and for cruising only, it could not perform the difficult flying action I once did in the above photos.
Trip to Taiwan Natural Beauty 台灣大自然之旅 6/19 - 6/27/04
My wife Margaret and I just completed a road trip in Taiwan. This trip passed through the north eastern part of the island going through Taibei, Jinshan, Jiaosi, Ilan, Hualien, Taroko National Park, Tsing Ching, Hohuanshang, and Sun Moon Lake, etc. The entire journey took 7 days to complete and we drove 1,221 km in total. The natural beauty of the north eastern Taiwan is very impressive, the most memorial area for me was the cave formations and the outdoor hot spring at the TarokoNational Park, also the daily fog in the mountainous area from Tsing Ching was pretty amazing too. Sitting at the top of the mountain quietly watching the fog and cloud come and goes just clear all the trouble in my mind away.
Almost ever since high school I have been keeping short hairstyle for the past twenty plus years, the flat top was so uninteresting I got so bored by it. It is time for something new and exciting so I decided to try out something special. After discussing with my hairstylist about my concept of whirlpools on the head and he start working on my head. So here is our new joint project and the exhibition venue is on my head. The finished work look like a maze and when I walk on the street it create many interesting comments from the passerby. I would like to give special thanks to my hairstylist Devil Chan from mina dev wil Hair Dressing in CausewayBay, Hong Kong.
Devil Choi.
My Personal Skyscraper photograph from Ciaro, Egypt was selected as part of the Urban Art Exhibition in Melbourne. This photograph was enlarged into a large format poster to be display at the bus stops of Melbourne. This is a wonderful idea since now one can enjoy a little bit of art while waiting for the bus, it will be great if Hong Kong have its own Urban Art program in this format, it will be a comfortable art experience for the city people.
DriftCity climbed the Great Wall + Local Accent [12 artists from Hong Kong] Exhibition
2003 is coming to and end and one of my dreams finally came true before the end of this year which is to climb the Great Wall of China with my Personal Skyscraper. The weather was freezing cold on the morning of Dec/27 and very windy as well making the photo session quite a challenge. I arrived at about 8:30am and there were not much tourist around and the Great Wall look magnificent under the rising sun and the blue sky, I was touched. I also visited the Forbidden City the day earlier and took some amazing Polaroid instant photos showing the emptiness of the palace. The work is now being shown at the Pickled Art Centre in Beijing [www.pickleart.com] which featured 11 other prominent Hong Kong artists? works, do drop by if you are around Beijing.
Nov/21/2003 to Feb/1/2004, Hong Kong Museum of Art, www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/Arts
The 14th Hong Kong Art Biennial 2003 is here again. My large scale installation entitled When Is The Exact Moment Dreams Become Reality? was selected in the exhibition this year. There are more than 1,500 works submitted for the competition this year and 110 pieces of works were selected to shown. The quality of the work this year was very good. My installation is located at the 2/F lobby facing the fantastic view of VictoriaHarbour inspiring the viewer to think about the different aspects of home.
Oct/19 to Dec/14/2003, Ox Warehouse, Macau, www.olhartspace.org
I just participated in a large group exhibition in Ox Warehouse in Macau. The show is call Paysage-portable [portable landscape]. This exhibition investigates the idea of landscape and mobility. I think the biggest thing regarding landscape must be the camera in daily experience so I have decided to shoot some photograph with my Personal Skyscraper project. Macau Ox Warehouse is a big place and they are featuring close to 30 Hong Kong and Macau artists. Macau is a very romantic city with lots of interesting place to visit, enjoy.
Graduate House, The University of Hong Kong, 3 University Drive, HK
Three years ago my studio mate Ho Siu Kee and I signed up to embark on an experimental trip to go for our Doctor of Fine Arts Degree in RMIT and now it is time to graduate. The gallery at the opening night was filled with hundreds of guests. A 400 pages book entitled DriftCity was published for this occasion. This book documented 10 of my experimental art projects from the past 3 years which was inspired by the idea of Home in the City. It includes many sketches and photos taken during the creativity process. This book is on sale now in Basheer Design Books for HK$ 92 or you can contact me for signed copies. A guided tour and an artist talk was scheduled on Oct/11 (Sat) at 2PM, see you there.
Have you ever wanted to own a piece of artwork and put it in your room but got turn off by the gallery system? Well, here is the good news.
