The "Brother Liberty" performance served as a defiant act of cultural resistance. By reclaiming public space in Taipei, the protest sought to shine a spotlight on the systemic erosion of fundamental freedoms in Hong Kong. It specifically advocated for the protection of political prisoners—individuals detained for their beliefs—and challenged the censorship of Glory to Hong Kong, an anthem that has become a global symbol of the right to freedom of expression.
The costume was meticulously designed to weave the history of the movement into a visual narrative of human dignity:
The Crown: Built upon a yellow construction helmet—the universal icon of the Hong Kong pro-democracy movement—the crown featured integrated LED lighting. This glow symbolized the enduring "light of democracy" that persists even under the shadow of authoritarianism.
The Eternal Flame: A torch equipped with an internal fan and flickering film mimicked a living flame. This represented the unquenchable spirit of a people demanding their basic human rights and the warmth of a community that refuses to be silenced.
The Five Demands Tablet: Held firmly in hand, this tablet served as a physical manifesto. It ensured that the core aspirations of the movement.
