Umbrella Movement Blind Drawings
Blind drawing is a meditative discipline designed to synchronize the senses of sight and touch. By sketching a subject without looking at the paper, the artist creates a bridge between observation and intuition—a feat that often appears impossible.
In the heart of the protest sites, I produced more than 1,000 such drawings, capturing the faces of the movement one minute at a time. My hands remained concealed within a yellow box as I engaged in an interactive dialogue with each sitter, turning a technical exercise into a shared moment of human connection. These sketches were gifted to the participants as mementos of the struggle, each stamped with Nelson Mandela’s enduring words: "It always seems impossible until it’s done." More than just art, each of the 1,000 sketches remains a memento of hope and a celebration of the strength found in solidarity.
